Learn more about the oldest culture in Norway, have some traditional bidos, and get a chance to feed reindeers! Book this tour from Tromsø Arctic Reindeer.
The indigenous Norwegian Sami is one of the oldest ethnic groups in Norway. Most of them live in Northern Norway and share a beautiful relationship with reindeers. If you want to know more about this traditional culture, this 3-hour Tromsø Arctic Reindeer tour is for you.
You have the choice to either book a morning or an afternoon session. The pick-up times will be 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, respectively. You will be greeted by a team member and taken on a bus ride to the camp, 25 minutes away from Tromsø.
Once you reach the camp, you will be marvelled at the beautiful sight of herds of reindeers, just like the ones you see on Christmas postcards! The organizers will provide the food for the feeding session. You’ll get a chance to be up, close, and personal with the herd. Don’t forget to snap some pictures of the activity.
One of the ways to collect wild reindeers is by throwing lassos. You can give lasso throwing a shot by practising on a fake reindeer! Later, all the participants can settle down at the Sami gamme and listen to the stories of the reindeer herders. You will also get to sing some traditional folk songs called joik along with the Sami themselves! Warm beverages will be served during this entertaining activity.
If you want to try some exquisite Sami lunch, you can try their bidos, a stew made from reindeer meat. Vegetarian options are available as well. After a fun-filled day and a full stomach, you will be dropped off at Tromsø.
Wear weather-appropriate clothing to keep yourself warm during your time at the camp. You can also bring your camera along to snap pictures of reindeers and the Sami.
